Against the background of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the Heroes of Surabaya, Thera Hoogendijk discovers the violent and revolutionary history of her hometown.
It was a traumatic time for thousands of Dutch people and Indonesians. Hundreds of which did not survive. In the Netherlands from after the war, the conflict injustices remained unknown.
Indonesia has turned the Battle for Surabaya into their ultimate point of patriotic deeds, unfortunately in a romanticized version of reality, without the crimes and the violent attacks.
And how did the English get caught up in this colonial war?
