Diamond Dust provides a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes of the Jewish diamond-industry in Antwerp, which is experiencing more and more competition from Indian dealers.
For over four centuries, Antwerp is the Mecca of the international diamond-industry. About 80 percent of all rough diamonds and 40% of all sharpened diamonds in the world are sold here. But the industry is under pressure; the originally Jewish diamond-trade is slowly but steadily being taken over by Indians, changing the focus from quality and professionalism, to quantity and profitable trade.
