A film by Leo de Boer
In the film Bitter Pills, Leo de Boer investigates why certain "expensive medicins" are actualy that expensive and what the consequences are of that. He portrays patients with rare diseases, depending on expensive drugs, as a guide for the story. Questions such as "How much is a human life allowed to cost?" and "When becomes a patient too expensive?" are underlaying these portraits. Essentially, the documentary is about the pressure of the principle of solidarity in health care.
