When the memory comes

A film by Frank Diamand

When the memory comes is about the Jewish historian Saul Friedländer (1932, Prague) and his goal to describe the prosecution of the Jews whilst preserving the primary sense of disbelieve. This led to a new and unique form of describing history, which gave the victims, spectators and the perpetrators equally a voice and face. The film illustrates the portrait of a man whose life and work is entirely intertwined with the history of Europe and European Judaism- or, even more, in whose work and life this history is embodied.

The film was broadcasted on 28 April 2013 from 14.00-15.00 and was replayed on Thursday 9 May at 15.00 on NL2.
