A film by Rudolf van den Berg
Based on a primal text of Western civilization in which Orestes' adventure is interwoven with two urgent themes: the origins of democracy and the power relations between men and women.
ORESTES’ is about the origin of democracy. In ancient Greece a captivating stage play was written about it, making us aware of the painful dilemmas we are confronted with when human nature clashes with common sense. Whoever is filled with the lust for revenge is not likely to adhere strictly to the law
The development of democracy is an unfinished process, and democracy is still a rare blessing. That is why the story of Orestes is as topical now as it was in 458 B.C., when the poet Aeschylus wrote it.
