Jaap Hillenius, an attempt to get closer

A triptych film about the life and work of painter Jaap Hillenius (1934 – 1999). When Jaap Hillenius died in a tragic traffic accident, his masterpiece had not yet been completed.

But in the work he left behind, his unique stand on the modern-day art-world can be recognized. Jaap Hillenius set his own standards, opposite to the fashion of current times. George Seurat (1859 – 1891) was his role-model. In his way of thinking he was influenced by writer Marcel Proust (1871 – 1922). In his daily life, his art and his passion for ethno-graphics, reflected his desire to depict the ultimate moment of beauty.
