I was already famous then

A film by Carin Goeijers

I was already famous then tells the story of Joop Korzelius, an 84 year old homeless man. In the fifties and sixties he was a well-established jazz drummer, successful and famous, but he spends his current days in a Salvation Army care home, where he drinks beers and smokes weed with young homeless people. Joop looks back at his life, in which he has refused to conform to the demands which were laid out for him by society. But now that he is in the fall of his life, Joop is confronted by the transience of his existence for the first time. The film is a hymn on the maladjustment.
